Ipsy is the subscription service that started it all. $10 a month for curated makeup? Sure? Why not? Little did I know that getting a shiny pink package in the mail would get me addicted to subscription services. My first package was in June 2014. I stopped receiving them in September 2015, thinking I would move on to other makeup services, and now two years after my first package I’m back to Ipsy.
Why? Well for the reason I started getting them in the first place. I’m not a huge makeup person. I buy it. I wear it. But that’s about as far as my love for it goes. I’ve never gotten into the habit of figuring out the best shades for my coloring, the best shaping I could do to make my cheekbones look bigger and my nose look smaller… etc. I tried Wantable makeup, because it was curated and you received full-size items, but it was a lot more expensive at $40 a month. I tried Boxycharm, but while the value was great for the monthly subscription, it wasn’t curated. So now I’m back. Curated makeup that doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg every month.
Not to mention, I find the cute makeup bags irresistible. I’m kind of upset with myself for missing the one from February 2016. The 8-bit envelope is adorable and really speaks to my nerdy side. (If anyone has one they’re willing to part with, let me know!)
Let’s see what I got in my June Glam Bag:
Crème Gel Liner in Swerve
I’m always a fan of eyeliner. I have red hair and therefore very light lashes, so eyeliner does a great job of making my eyes look a lot bigger. This one is pretty good. It glides on more easily than a pencil, but not as nicely as a liquid.
Eyeshadow in Lounge
My first thought was “holy crap that’s green!” and I was afraid it was going to be super dark. However the eyeshadow is actually really sheer. According to the package it changes from green to red depending on the lighting.
This eyeshadow doesn’t come in a case. Instead you need a palette to put them into. I don’t currently have one, but I have a few things like this so I was thinking of buying this one because it has a mirror. I’m nearsighted, so I end up leaning over the counter to see into the mirror, and this one would allow me to just look into the palette.
You can see in the picture above that the eyeshadow looks green in the center where I put it on thicker, and red near the corners of my eyes.
Be A Bombshell Cosmetics
Pout Potion in Secret
This lip gloss is great. The color is perfect for me. Red hair is really hard (in my opinion) because colors will often clash with my hair.
Just in case you were wondering, as with most lip products, this one does come off on a coffee cup. However, after wearing it for awhile the sticky wears away and then it’s just a nice shade left behind.
3 Tone Bronzer
I really like this because it contains blush, bronzer, and highlighter all in the same container. This means my makeup drawer will be much less cluttered than if I had all three separately.
When applying this I used Ipsy’s spin, and swirled all three colors together and applied it to my cheekbones. In the picture below I’m wearing this, the lipgloss, the eyeliner, and the eyeshadow.
It’s a pretty natural look which is right up my alley. Except the eyeshadow, which is a bit out of my comfort zone.
Fiber Mask Set
I love getting masks like this in the mail because I never buy them for myself, and it’s a nice little treat. They are also much easier to apply because it’s an actual mask you put on your face, and then after 15-20 minutes you just peel it off. No rinsing required!
I received two masks: Pomegranate Crush and Cucumber Breeze. They are infused with actual fruit extracts and vitamin E. The masks are also biodegradable which is pretty cool.
I opted to try the pomegranate one first. The mask was difficult to unfold; I was afraid I was going to tear it, but I managed to get it onto my face in one piece. I walked around the house while waiting and the slight breeze combined with the witch hazel was very refreshing.
Sorry for the facial expression. You can’t really smile while wearing the mask. My husband said I looked like I belonged in the burn ward. He said I better stay away from Little Man, because I would scare him, but he was just curious about it.
Such a cute face! He was playing with a toilet paper roll. Ha.
When I peeled the mask off after about 20 minutes my skin felt moisturized and a little sticky. After awhile it dried out and felt softer. I’m looking forward to the cucumber flavor in a couple of days.
I really liked the contents of this glam bag. I think I will use every product. I like Ipsy because it’s an inexpensive way to try new things. Sign up now to skip the wait list! Already subscribed? What did you get in your bag this month?
